WOW I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT A TIME WHEN I WENT TO MONTROSE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND THE BIRD I HAD BEEN LONGING TO SEE WAS A BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLER. I WAS DODDLING AROUND NOT CARING BECAUSE I FIGURED I WOULDNT SEE ANY COLORFUL BIRDS, WHEN MY GRANDMA SCREAMED I KNEW SOMETHING INTERESTING HAPPENED SO I RAN DOWN THE PATH AND GUESS WHAT WAS THERE….. A BLACK THROATED BLUE WARBLER ABOUT 15 OF THEM BEING THE BIRD I WANTED TO SEE I WAS QUITE HAPPY THE REST OF THE DAY BEING SLIGHTLY MORE INTERESTED IN BIRDS BEING ANYTHING STRANGE CAN HAPPEN WHEN IN SUCH A LUSH ENVIRONMENT.

Upcoming Field Trips for 2011

January 11, 2011 in News

Our first field trip for 2011 will be to Starved Rock State Park on Jan. 22nd for a day of watching Bald Eagles. Illinois Audubon is having a huge festival that weekend so there will be plenty to do. Trip will last from 9am until 2pm at the latest.

On Feb. 12th, we will be meeting at Ryerson Woods for an evening of Owling with Steve Bailey and Sheryl DeVore. We hope to get up close looks at Barred Owl, Eastern Screech-Owl, and Great Horned Owl. Possibly some Flying Squirrels as well! Meet at the Welcome Center at 3:30pm.

On Sunday, March 27th, we will be headed to Newton, IL to view the endangered Greater Prairie Chicken and the other birds that can be found at Prairie Ridge State Natural Area. This will require you come out the night before since it is a long drive from the Chicago region. I’ll keep you posted with information on hotels and hopefully we can all meet for dinner the night before the trip.

Detailed trip info. can be found as always at www.illinoisyoungbirders.org under field trips. Please RSVP to Brian Herriott if you would like to attend any of these trips.

Young Birders: Share Your Photos & Work!

January 6, 2011 in Uncategorized

Welcome to the new ILYB blog.  Here you can share your photos, stories, artwork, and other items with each other online and showcase them to the community.

To start uploading photos or artwork, click on the link in the right-hand column called “Start a New Blog Post”

The best way to add bunches of images (photos or art) or a video is to click on the icons next to where it says “Upload/Insert” .  Also, remember to choose a category for your post in the right hand column.  Right now the choices are Art, News, or Photos.  If these don’t apply, just choose Uncategorized for now.  We may add more categories later if you need and want them.

Let me know if you have any questions,
